New York State’s current recreational saltwater regulations list open seasons for many of these popular species, including winter flounder from April 1 to May 30, striped bass in marine waters from April 15 to December 15, scup/porgy from May 1 to December 31, summer flounder/fluke from May 4 to October 15, black sea bass from June 23 to December 31, and Long Island Sound tautog opportunities in both spring and fall. The DEC page notes the regulations were last changed on April 8, 2025 and may change again.
